COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course requires the manager to assess the financial health of the organization and allocate resources to optimize the organization's performance. Topics include conducting business performance reviews, business process improvement and quality management, allocating resources based on market potential, alignment of working capital management with client services, optimizing supply chain processes, and achieving high asset productivity. Analytical tools used will include financial decision support models, cost analysis, forecasting, generic benchmarking, and productivity measurement.
TOPICS AND OBJECTIVES

CASH FLOW MANAGEMENT
• Describe the firm's cash conversion cycle.
• Examine the effects of credit policy on cash conversion cycle and revenue.
• Examine the effects of account payable terms on cash conversion cycle and cost of goods.
• Explain working capital practices.
• Explain the relationship between short-term financing and working capital practices.


OPTIMAL WORKING CAPITAL STRATEGIES
• Select working capital strategies to prepare for long-term opportunities.
• Explain the purpose of cash budgeting.
• Perform cash flow analysis.
• Identify best practices in working capital management in a given industry.
• Evaluate the risks and opportunities of working capital strategies.
• Analyze the ethical implications of competing working capital alternatives.


IMPLEMENTING WORKING CAPITAL STRATEGIES
• Develop working capital policy and a cash budget to optimize working capital.
• Develop metrics to monitor working capital management.


SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
• Explain the principles of inventory management.
• Examine the effects of inventory management on cash conversion cycle and cost of goods.
• Explain the relationship between forecasting and the Just In Time (JIT) concept.
• Analyze the components of the supply chain.
• Determine the effective capacity in a given organization considering bottlenecks.
• Explain the multiple roles of stakeholders in the supply chain


OPTIMIZING SUPPLY CHAIN EFFICIENCY
• Identify domestic and global best practices in supply chain management.
• Assess existing supply chain management practices.
• Evaluate opportunities for improving supply chain operating efficiency.
• Analyze ethical issues among supply chain stakeholders.


SUPPLY CHAIN REDESIGN
• Develop a plan that optimizes the supply chain.
